This unit will be about Speech Sounds focusing on Medial /e/, /a/, /i/, blending onsets (beginning letter) and rimes (two letters at the end of each word).
Its target is to foster pupils’ phonics and word recognition by applying basic phonemic performance task through blending.

Procedures

     Day 1
          The teacher will ask the pupils to sing the ABC Song (Disclaimer: The video provided is used for educational purposes only. Video credit is for ChuChu TV).She will introduce the medial /e/ and rimes /et/, /en/ using board work. The pupils will complete the pictures with rimes /-en/ , /-et/ and fill in the blanks with the missing beginning letters and writing the whole word in the blanks at the right. The teacher will model reading the onsets (initial letters), rimes (last two letters) and the whole word after the pupils has completed it. Let the pupils name the given pictures by choosing the answer from the box provided. The pupils will write the correct beginning letter in the puzzle to form the word. Let the pupils complete the phrases and sentences in the story.

Day 2
           The teacher will review the past lesson by letting the pupils give examples of words with medial /e/,  and rimes /-en/, /-et/. The pupils will identify the pictures’ with medial /e/, rimes /-eg/, and /-ed/ by writing the beginning letter to form the whole word. The teacher will let the pupils practice reading using given sentences with pictures. Let the pupils choose the correct ending letters. The teacher will dictate 3 letter words with medial /e/ and the pupils will list each word mentioned. Then the pupils will check the chart list if they have spelled each words correctly. This will test the listening skills of the pupils. Emphasize the value of honesty while they are checking their own papers.

Day 3
            The teacher will review the past lesson by an oral recitation. Present a powerpoint of pictures with medial /e/, rimes /-em/, /-ell/, and /-eb/. Ask the pupils if with what sounds do they begin? Give an activity for pupils to identify the beginning letters of the given pictures to form the whole word. Let the pupils choose the phrases/sentences which correspond to given pictures. Let the pupils do the puzzle by filling in the box with the correct word.

Day 4
            The teacher will present pictures with medial /a/, rimes /-am/, /-an/, /-at/, /-ag/, /-ad/, /-ap/ and let pupils write the beginning letter to complete the word. Let the pupils complete the words to form phrases and sentences. The teacher will distribute activity papers for pupils. Let them read a phrase and draw a line to connect the picture with the phrases. Let the pupils draw a line to connect the pictures with the sentence. Let the pupils look at the given pictures and encircle the correct word. Let the pupils read the given sentences.

Day 5
            The teacher will present words with medial /i/ through board work. The teacher will Show pictures to pupils and let them write the beginning letter for words with rimes /-it/, /-ig/, /-ip/, /-in/, /-id/, /-ill/. Let the pupils encircle the correct word for the pictures. Ask the pupils to name the pictures by giving the beginning letters for each word. Ask the pupils to fill in the configured clues. Let the pupils identify the name of the given pictures. Show a powerpoint and let the pupils point out the pictures that corresponds to given words. Let the pupils practice reading the phrases and sentences.
